We’re really pleased to announce that our 2018 charities have now been chosen. This year we received over 30 applications from a huge variety of worthy winners. The North East Ladies Day Committee met in December 2017 to review each charity’s application and decided that three charities should be supported in 2018.
We’re very proud to share that our 2018 chosen charities are:
- JPC Community Farm
- We Can Dance
You can find out more about each of our chosen charities below. A representative from each charity will join us at our Presentation Evening on 12th January where they will share details of their charity and how the funds raised from NELD will be used. We look forward to raising further funds for our very worthy charities and thank all charities who applied for 2018.
JPC Community Farm
JPC Community Farm have secured planning consent for 16 Independent Supported Living Homes for 18 Young Adults with Special and complex needs to have their own front door. The farm is set in 23.5 Acres at Busby near Stokesley, North Yorkshire and will in time be developed into a haven for fun with a specially adapted Outdoor Play Area, a Petting Farm, Horticultural Therapy Garden and Respite Lodges.
Further facilities will be added in due course. They will include an Indoor Play Area, Hydrotherapy Pool and Grand Marquee to utilise for Day Care as well as Corporate Functions, Special Needs Weddings and the like. JPC Community Farm will set the future standards of Special Needs Care with the use of the latest technologies and highest standards of care from its staff. Our motto is “Where just enough, isn’t good enough”.
Neoangels is a charity which supports the neonatal unit and its families at North Tees hospital. It was established in 2015 by parents and staff nurses, primarily to fill a gap which was not funded by the NHS for the financial disadvantage families find themselves in whilst they have a premature or sick baby/babies on the ward.
We rely soley on donations from fundraisers, the public and our organised events as well as some local business support.
The support from NELD would go towards a breast feeding package including 4 reclining chairs, breast feeding shawls and electronic breast pumps. Breastfeeding is key for our premature and sick babies as its easy to digest and helps fight infection. This package would provide comfort and relaxation for both mums and babies.
We Can Dance
We Can Dance was founded in 2000 to provide weekly dance lessons for Children with special needs in Northern England. We became a Registered Charity in 2010.
We Can Dance focuses on young people with special educational needs, such as profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), autism, physical disabilities, sensory impairments and behavioural difficulties. These young people are a hard to reach group and are often overlooked. We now cover eleven schools, seven of which are in the province of NELD.
We continuously work to organise fund raising events to pay our six very dedicated professional dance teachers, who in return charge no travel or administrative costs. Our committee are all volunteers and therefore all the monies we raise are directed solely to the children’s lessons. We Can Dance wants to continue to support a greater number of schools, thus giving the opportunity for more children to benefit from dance.
