The We Can Dance Registered Charity Number is: 1136698
One of our three amazing charity partners for 2018 is We Can Dance. You can find out more about their fantastic work below.
Our chosen charity, We Can Dance was founded in 2000 to provide weekly dance lessons for children with special needs in Northern England. We Can Dance have been in operation for many years but they became a registered charity in 2010, as they began to grow across many schools.
We Can Dance focus on young people with special educational needs. This includes profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), autism, physical disabilities, sensory impairments and behavioural difficulties. These young people are a hard to reach group and are often overlooked. The charity now cover a range of schools, including:
- The Dales School, Morton-on-swale
- Mowbray School, Bedale
- Applefields, York
- Hob Moor Oaks, York
- Priory Woods School, Middlebrough
- Abbey Hill School, Stockton
- Beaumont Hill, Darlington
- North Shore, Stockton
- Ash Trees, Middlesbrough
- Billingham South, Billingham
How We Can Dance raise funds
We Can Dance continuously work to organise fund raising events to pay six very dedicated professional dance teachers. No teachers charge travel or administrative costs. The committee are all volunteers and therefore all the money raised is used for the children’s’ dance lessons. We Can Dance wants to continue to support a greater number of schools, thus giving the opportunity for more children to benefit from dance.
